The four elevators currently installed in the UNCC Building were commissioned in 1997 and have been in continuous service for more than twenty-nine (29) years. Due to their age, several spare parts and critical components have become obsolete or unavailable in the market. In particular, the existing control systems and other major components have reached the end of their expected service life and are increasingly difficult to maintain. Furthermore, a number of components have been phased out by manufacturers and replaced with newer technologies.. In addition to the challenges associated with the availability of spare parts and obsolete equipment, the existing elevators do not provide several essential safety and accessibility features, including appropriate facilities for people with disabilities, an Automatic Rescue Device (ARD), and Fireman's Operation addition to the shortage of spare parts, the existing elevators lack several essential safety and accessibility features, including facilities for people with disabilities, an Automatic Rescue Device (ARD), and Fireman's Operation.
